Ranks are the things which determine the importance of a website. It also tells how important a website is to any particular search engine. Google is the search king and they use Page Rank technology to provide better results in search terms.
Links are the main currency in the web world and Google gives more importance to those sites that have more backlinks pointing to any site. If your website is, your-name.com and I gave you a link which goes to your site that means you are getting one back link. The more backlinks you have, the better chances you will get to achieve page rank. Here is a picture which will help you to understand the basic concept of Page Rank,
On the picture, imagine that, all of the colored balls are websites. The big yellow ball is Google. All of the sites are linking to Google that’s why it has become bigger and have higher page rank. The green smaller balls are new sites and have no links pointing to them, so they have no page rank. The big yellow ball is pointing to the red ball which has no other backlinks but still it has achieved a bigger status just because a far bigger website has linked to him. This is just an basic image of page rank, and the actual image may blow up your mind.
To check the page rank of your site, go to toolbar.google.com and download their toolbar. Now you can see the page ranks of pages you visit. If your site is new and you have ‘no page rank’ then don’t be upset because its natural.
Please remember that, blogs or websites don’t get page ranks, only the web address(www.yoursite.com) gets page rank. Its not that difficult to get a page rank. When I started my first blog, blog-success.blogspot.com, it took only 3 months to get Page Rank 3 from No page rank. When I transformed the address into www.tamalanwar.com, it started all over again with No page rank.
There are 12 status of google page ranks, it starts from No page rank, then page rank 0 to page rank 10. The higher is better. The more ‘quality’ links you have the better rankings you will get. Now lets see what types of links there are,
Backlinks
Its an ordinary link pointing to your blog, the text that includes your link is just your site’s address like, your-blog.com.
Keyword link
A link is pointing to your site but the text is a keyword like if your site is about books then the link text is including the keyword, books.
Relevant link
If your site is about cars, and another site which is also about cars links to your site, that is called relevant link. Relevant links are more useful then other links.
One way link
If a site links to you but you didn’t linked to him, that is called one way link. One way links helps more to get page ranks.
Please remember that, having a big page rank doesn’t means that this site is better. People can pay huge money to get lots of link to get a higher page rank. In blogging, first you should focus on your articles and the quality of your blog and the ranks will come automatically. That’s all for now, and I will write more for you next time.
