How to install Disqus comments system on your blog?

If you have browsed through different big blogs, they have a huge number of readers and those blogs got lots of comments on them their posts. Some of them are old and got 100-300 or even 1000 comments. As a new reader to that blog, you will be impressed with that number and that’s the true attraction of blogging.

It may take 10 minutes to read an article but that person will spend hours on your blog to read what everyone is saying about your thoughts and this will inspire him to comment too. Now you are feeling the importance of your blog comments.

Some of the bigger blog platforms like blogger(blogspot) itself has a lack of quality comments system. You have to go to another page, then have to sign in with your account, write your comment, have to fill up the crazy word and then you comment.

Lots of the people in the internet are lazy and lots of them don’t want to comment on blogger blogs. You can easily change your comments system with a wordpress like comments system. There are now two comments providers on the internet,

IntenseDebate
Disqus

I’m using IntenseDebate for months and it helped me to get more comments. Disqus is in the business for a long time so I tried out this system on my blogger blog, BlogKori.

You have to go to Disqus.com and have to ‘get started.’ Now fill up your blog’s address, name and you will get a subdomain on disqus. I used ‘BlogKori‘ as my subdomain.

*Now select your blog platform, like wordpress, blogger, typepad etc. I’m a blogger user so I continued with blogger.

Now on the page, they will tell you to ‘log in‘ to your blogger account. From your dashboard, click ‘layout‘ and then click ‘edit HTML‘ tab. Now download your blog’s template on your computer.

Now switch to the Disqus window: On the bottom, mark on, ‘use disqus on all posts.’ Browse and locate your blog’s template (which you have just downloaded) and click ‘upload.’ Now you will see an HTML on disqus. ‘Copy‘ the code.

Now switch to the Blogger window: Click on ‘expand widget templates‘ select all of the HTML code in blogger and ‘delete/ remove‘ it. Now paste the new code (which you just coppied from disqus) and click ‘save template.’

Now switch to the Disqus window: Click ‘I’m done.’ View your blog and experience the new comments system.

With disqus,

  • You can get email updates when there is a new comment
  • You can have your own profile and comment on other blogs with it
  • Set different options, set who can comment, moderate comments
  • Have your blog’s community on, yourname.disqus.com
  • They will stop spam comments

Set up Disqus on your blog and see the difference. By the way, comment on this post to see how Disqus works.
