7 Business strategies that twitter is teaching us silently

Twitter is the yet most successful startup company ever. No other did what twitter did in 2 years of time. In the past google was the king of all internet business and now I believe there’s another one who’s worthy for the throne, twitter. Twitter is so close to become the next google, wait until they monetize their business.

Twitter business strategy is impressive and we all could learn a lot from studying their approach. Twitter is teaching us about the changing face of e-commerce without saying anything. Here’s what we can learn from twitter,

1. Be simple and innovative

Twitter came up with the simplest idea, 140 character text messages. No pics, video, music or not even HTML! This was an innovative idea because it’s clean and simple. Others who came up with complicated dashboards, messages, pics and many more; fall out from the market. For an example Plurk seemed to be a much stronger opponent to twitter, but they are now nothing comparing to the birdy!

2. Be universal

Twitter is made for all. It’s not about a group or a niche. Write anything under 140 characters. The one more thing that made it apart is they are open source. They offered a great support for developers to create apps and services for twitter.

3. Don’t set rules

Twitter is easy to understand and there are no such rules for using twitter. They only suspend an account for spam. People sell their accounts, puts paid tweets but twitter doesn’t seem to take any action because they have given freedom to use twitter.

4. A great service isn’t perfect

Twitter is a great service but there are lots of problems on their service. A lot of time they are un-available and the data servers are over capacity. But still people uses twitter and it makes sense that you don’t have to be perfect in business.

5. Have patience about the profit

The main twitter service is ad free and they decided to keep the monetization methods un-revealed for a time. They are making the audience more interested and you know what they say, “The more you hide, the more they want to see!” If they’d monetize twitter from the beginning, people won’t be much interested in twitter.

6. Don’t jump for money

Lately, Facebook tried to buy twitter for $500 millions of share, and twitter declined the offer. Twitter has great plans in mind and I believe they did the right thing. By declining the offer, they told the world that twitter is worth more than a $500 million dollars.

7. Be quiet and listen to others

Twitter is listening to what others are saying about them. Blogs and news are talking about their hidden monetization methods. Twitter is listening and will reveal the secret at the right time. At the mean time, they are allowing all of us to wonder!

Yes, i believe twitter will definitely beat facebook. For many days, it was silent. I mean, the twitter revolution is silent. While facebook is again and again changing their layout and getting criticized by the users, twitter is still growing in a significant speed. It will rock the next world. However, i don’t understand one thing. How can i make people follow me? People can’t find me out unless they know me personally or they have my twitter id. In this case, facebook is better as it brings a lot of people as friends.

I am really happy that Twitter denied the facebook bid for Twitter, I do hope that Twitter remains set on it’s goals and does not sell! Because in my opinion it would be a very smart move for Twitter to remain with the original creators, it just wouldn’t be the same with a new owner!

Till then,

Jean
